Yes. What does SP1 have to do with it?
Have you ever seen or heard of this type abberation? It is a horizontal black line about 1/8″ wide (on my TV) by full width of screen. It is only there a split second then the recorded tv starts or ends. It it located either in the half way up the screen or at any point below. Seems to vary.
SJMayeCool poll. Only sorry to pester you when I may could have found it myself. Either way. Thanks. I will study.
SJMayeI guess it could be, but I do not ever remember it before. The only thing I have done since the reinstall of Win7 has been install ATI CCC and messing with the settings. Oh, and I did the registry setting for full dynamic range.
I wonder about uninstalling either the rigistry hack or uninstalling and reinstalling the ccc and video driver.
Is the player the same for other video content? Such my own recorded video that is devoid of DHCP. If so, could I guess I could try playing some of that to see how it responed.
SJMayeWatching closely I can not narrow it down. The glitch is a momentary black horizontal line when you click a show to start watching (i.e. start MC player) and another when you stop. Same for when watching “Live” TV. At no other time while navigating MC do i see this aberration.
So it may not be medai center at all, but a glitch with the starting and stopping of the media player for media center.

If you get a case with an SFX PSU then you could replace the supply. One of these SeaSonic PSUs would probably be good.

OK, did some reading. I was not aware of this. So many of the slim designs use some sort of non-standard power supply that cannot be replaced or replaced cost effectively. The SFX PSU is a standard. If I purchase a case using this type PSU I can replace it. And since it is a standard I may have better luck finding a quality PSU?

I believe the end result should be similar.

But more simple, probably safer. I like it.
SJMaye
That will work, but the mcupdate method is using the built-in MS function for starting WMC from scratch.
I agree. I would rather use that method. As I recall the method I mentioned takes me back to square one. Have to reset everything in MC all over again. Is the result the same?

So then you would use Show Analyzer’s file watching function?
I always found DTB to be better and more flexible at that function.
Yes, that was what I was considering. It would be just one less piece of software running, DBT has always worked good for me though. The only problem I have seen is SA hanging on a file while processing. I have had to leave MC and manually shut it down to relieve the hang up. So I guess my real problem is SA which there is no substitute.
SJMayeThought I would poke this one. Maybe simplify a little.
Can I run the dtb add-in and get commercial skip without DVRMS Toolbox? Just trying to simplify the installation.
SJMayeInteresting. A while back I had a couple occasions that the MC database became corrupt. I followed this site’s recommendation. It worked, but it was sort of slash and burn. Had to start over as if I just opened MC for the first time.
What will your recommendation change and leave alone?
SJMayeOff-topic, but this thread appears sort of dead. Who knows, could help resurrect it!
I can handle looking at the backgorund, but the blue borders while viewing the DVD playback is really annoying. As a result I stay will using MC playback for all but BluRay.
SJMayeBefore installing a Ceton Cable TV card I used Silicondust HDHomerun and was really happy with it.
Added bonus was I could access the tuners anywhere on my network and watch TV
SJMayeBuilt my second HTPC with these specs. Worked out fine. On-board audio and video sure simply things and cut costs.
USB 3.0, but I am not sure where you may take advantage of this with a dedicated HTPC unless you are using an external USB hard drive.
I checked my MB manual, but got no specification for audio. You will need to check the maker of the PC you select.
Great thing is all you are really doing is purchasing a good pc and adding a cable tv tuner. Windows Media Center is built right in if you choose to use it. Could not be more simple.
SJMayeThat is a pretty cool chassis for my HTPC, but not sure it is right for his desktop. The heatsink and heatpipes are pretty ingenius.
I appeciate all the feedback. I had hoped for a slim mini tower, but with the exception of a few high priced models the slim designs seem to have a lot of complaints about power supplies failing and their noise. I will probably look further at the mini-towers that use standard ATX PSUs. They may be wider than I like, but it will have a greater chance of long term success.

but this used to work fine from Media Center and preference is that they do so.
Glad you said that. It did use to work. A while back I know the ability to rate worked and then did not work for me. I quit trying. When I tried yesterday that worked. Still cannot add a video to the instant queue, though.
Like you said, it is just an annoyance. I do the bulk of the organization on my desktop.
