Bought one of the 22″ Vizio’s for the inlaws. I have yet to see the picture, but it was getting very good reviews everywhere I looked. Then again, how bad can 1080p on a 22″ screen actually look? I mean… it’s twenty-two inches, for crying out loud.
skirge01ModeratorI unregistered MpcAudioRendererFilter.ax, assuming that was the one you were talking about. Then, magically, everything started working… regular .ts files, bitstreaming… the whole shebang. Can you explain WHY simply unregistering the file that apparently made things work in the first place now caused everything to work perfectly WITHOUT it?!?! I’m utterly confused (yet quite happy) as to how this is now working.
skirge01ModeratorAwesome info, Andy. Thanks for all the hand-holding! I did exactly that, as well as registering a couple other MPC-HC files, just in case they might be needed. The graph I attached now plays back the DTS-HD MA audio without stuttering… HOWEVER (of course!) it doesn’t seem to “end” properly in either GraphStudio or SageTV. When I close the window in GS or hit stop in SageTV, I get a loud buzzing noise which will not cease until I exit either application.
So close I can taste it! 🙂
skirge01ModeratorI changed the options in ffdshow as you suggested and downloaded the MPC-HC standalone filters. However, since the filters were only .ax and a couple of .dll files, I wasn’t sure where to put them. I placed them into the MPC-HC folder and ran MPC-HC, then ran GraphStudio, but I didn’t see any of those. When you say the application compiles those into the exe, what exactly did you mean I need to do in order to make that happen? Or, do I need to put them in a Windows directory?
BTW… thanks for all the help so far! It’s very much appreciated.
skirge01ModeratorI uninstalled the Antipack, MPC-HC, and ffdshow so that I could sort of start over. I reinstalled MPC-HC and ffdshow, but I don’t see any MPC filters at all in GraphStudio. Is there something special I need to do to make them show up?
I’m not sure how I go about disabling the bitstreaming part. Is that just by unchecking the passthrough options in ffdshow?
skirge01ModeratorIt took quite a bit of effort, lots of installing, and even more uninstalling and rebooting, but I finally got the audio working through the X-fi. In case anyone else decides to do this, here are the important parts:
1. Let Windows 7 download all the drivers for you automatically
2. DO NOT run Creative’s Automatic Updater utility
3. Go to the Creative site and download the Alchemy drivers, as well as the Dolby Digital Live pack
4. Install Alchemy
5. Install DDL
6. Add the game’s path to Alchemy (this may be done automatically through Alchemy combing the registry for you and locating your game paths)At this point, you should have 5.1 audio going through your SPDIF connection to the receiver and EAX will be available under Windows 7 in your old games. You will need to disable the HDMI audio when playing games and enable the X-fi, but that’s pretty simple. Additionally, you may need to switch your receiver to pick up the digital audio from the SPDIF input, rather than the HDMI cable.
Now, my next project is to finish getting bitstreaming working with my setup.
skirge01ModeratorI got no audio at all with that, then I noticed that it was using the Microsoft DTV Audio Decoder, so I switched that out to ffdshow and then the Default Directsound Device wouldn’t link up. I swapped that out to the ATI HDMI Output and that linked up, but still no audio. Video played back quite smoothly, though. 🙂
skirge01ModeratorFirst, I attached the standard graph. Second, is what I believe you meant with the MPC-HC filter. I didn’t see another video decoder for MPC-HC, even though I installed MPC-HC just yesterday, long after your Antipack. Both have the exact same result I mentioned earlier.
skirge01ModeratorAny ideas? If not, I think I’m going to reinstall Windows and start from scratch again this weekend.
skirge01ModeratorGlad to hear that it wall went so smoothly. Having reliable backups definitely helps with your own confidence in doing builds, too. I just did a new mobo install and didn’t give it a second thought. If something went south, I’d just swap the old mobo back in and restore from the previous night’s WHS backup. Now, if WHS v2 would just get here sooner! 🙂
skirge01ModeratorI’m not sure what the optimal graph would look like, but I was able to find the right settings in SageTV to make it do precisely what Graph Studio is doing. I copied the file locally and it played exactly the same, so it’s not the network. I also played it in VLC (granted, that’s only DTS) and it played okay.
skirge01ModeratorI’m sure Mikinho is happy to hear that. The recent activity is a major focus and we’re really trying to not only get back to what people (myself included) were used to and enjoyed, but to make it even better. We’ve been tossing around some ideas and are trying them out. So, everyone, please continue the feedback, since we are actively listening to everyone’s thoughts.
skirge01ModeratorAndy,
I have my new 5570 (thanks, Naylia!) installed and working and I’m now trying to get bitstreaming going. I followed a bunch of your guides, but I’m getting severe stuttering during playback. The receiver is quickly switching between “DTS-HD MSTR” and “stereo”. Each one displays for only a split second and it just keeps switching. I’ve noticed that the CPU usage is peaking at about 60%, as well, but not pegged… it’s more in line with the stuttering.
Any ideas where to start?
Thanks!
skirge01ModeratorLMAO! I love the way the site automated the title of your reply. Almost makes it look like a diss.
BTW, I have nothing against ads on any site I visit regularly and I intentionally do not block them because of the minimal revenue that comes from it. However, if a site is showing me ads I find offensive, intrusive, or annoying, I definitely let them know. Intellitext is one of those really annoying ads I block universally.
skirge01ModeratorAre they really that annoying? I’m just trained to ignore them entirely. Every once in a while, I’ll take a look to see what Google is tracking me on (then I go to their Dashboard and fix that, hehe).
What exactly annoys you about them? Is it WHAT’s being advertised? WHERE the ads are? The TYPE of ad?
We definitely appreciate all the input!
