I’m eyeing that card myself and plan to pick it up next month, so I can finally get some bitstreaming action going.

I forgot to add that when using a Core i5, plan on getting a 3rd party heatsinkfan. The Core i3 comes with a very quiet fan but the stock fan on the Core i5 is too loud for most HTPC duties.
Do you have a recommendation for a heatsinkfan? My case is full height.
Thanks!
My first stop is always SilentPCReview and I trust their results implicitly. If you’re looking for quiet and efficient, anything they recommend will be perfect for an HTPC. Their current list is here.

Actually I did say i was running Windows 7 64 bit (W7x64), but I believe the computers wake themselves with a wake timer.
Why, yes, you did! I completely missed that. My bad. :-[ I have no clue how the wake timer works, but if it’s internal to the computer, then changing the NIC might not help.
However, the computers are waking, they just loose connectivity to networked drives. I did browse some 1G NICs last night, some reviewers on NewEgg note some compatibility issues w/ Intel NICs and AMD mother boards, so I’ll have to do more research on them.
My systems do this, too. After a couple of seconds, the network connections are restored, however. I see this first hand when I wake it up for watching TV. Are you able to wake the computer yourself via other methods? You could try setting the backup to a time when you’ll be there to watch it and see what happens. It may not be waking up at all.

Sounds like an S3 issue. You didn’t specify XP, Vista, or Windows 7, but I know Windows 7 has about 3 options for the NIC. Also, ensure that the BIOS is set to allow the NIC to wake the computer.
If you do decide on another NIC, I’d go with Intel.

I thought “Invasion” was among the best of the genre and it only lasted one season.
Even I lost interest in Invasion pretty quickly. The acting was pretty weak and the story didn’t hold up very well over the episodes. I still own the VHS and Laserdisc versions of the entire V collection (minus the TV series) and, to this day, I still find it fun to watch. I haven’t watched the new series yet, but the original one was more about “big brother” and communism than aliens. You think it was a coincidence that the aliens were wearing red? The cold war was still in full swing at the time, so the real fear was there in the public’s eye, but they instead focused on what the Nazi’s had done.

Do you have a link to the updated file?If you have ffdshow encode audio it will handle PCM and output AC3.

I contacted SageTV about my issue and they pointed me to the recently updated .ax file. I swapped that out and it fixed some other things, but I still can’t get PCM working. I uninstalled AC3Filter and set ffdshow to “AC3 (S/PDIF encode mode)” and that got audio playing back, but the receiver is showing DD or stereo, which means that PCM isn’t being sent from the computer, since I’ve seen the receiver say PCM in the past.
I’m really considering just updating my videocard to get bitstreaming working, since that seems to be less troublesome.

An “IP based interface”? My guess is that they’ll tweak it just enough so that it’s proprietary and completely negate any actual usefulness.
