well, event viewer was how i got the error 1603 message. Unfortunately there’s no other details as far as i could find. Pretty frustrating. That thread George linked didn’t show much either.
*sigh*

You couldn’t find anything related to this part?
“You must analyse the %Temp%SCSMInstall0X.log (X – increased on each atempt to install) by yourself or provide additional information about error from this log file. “
I was hoping there would be a similar log file on your system.
skirge01ModeratorROFL! I’ve only been on the site a couple of times and that was a long time ago. (EDIT: Okay, I checked into it and MS bought them back in 2008, so I’m not QUITE as embarrassed now.) As a SageTV user and someone who has never used WMC, I’ve never had a reason to go there unless someone directed me to for some reason. You learn something every day. So, I’m with you now… seems like they screwed up. 😉
skirge01ModeratorNot me. For a small company, a holiday weekend is a great time for this, due to the extra days available and the lower impact on users, since many people will be less active on the site.
Also, I don’t know much about TGB, but I’d imagine they’re not raking in the money and thus unable to throw tons of it at resources and additional hardware, like a large company would do. Then again, even if they did that, they could still run into problems. No matter how much testing you do, it’s impossible to account for every situation. Just ask Microsoft. 🙂
skirge01ModeratorIt may be different for WHS 2011, but this may give you a direction to start looking for more info.
skirge01ModeratorThis turned out to be an interesting thread. While I’m not a Netflix user, I wanted to see which DNS provider would be fastest. I was actually somewhat disappointed to find out that my provider (Cablevision) is the fastest.
skirge01ModeratorThanks, Aaron. Saving money is always welcome around these parts. Are the SSD promo codes the same crappy ones they usually offer, which only get you a max of $10 off? Those really tick me off. $10 off of a $300+ SSD sure as hell isn’t going to make me break out the wallet.
skirge01ModeratorThere are two types of data on a server which need to be backed up: system files and user data. WHS v1 was missing a way to back up the system files, but provided folder duplication to protect user data. WHS v2 provides a way to back up the system files, but is missing a way to back up user data.
skirge01ModeratorWorks great in SageTV. 😉
skirge01ModeratorI’m not looking forward to my WHS “upgrade” for the same reason (lots of data to move). However, my upgrade will be to move away from WHS entirely and I’ll happily spend the time to do so.
skirge01ModeratorFor the amount you’ll be spending on the HDFury, I’d seriously consider upgrading the receiver. I recently had to make a similar decision and a new receiver was definitely the wiser, longer term choice. In the end, it didn’t even cost all that much more than the HDFury would have.
skirge01ModeratorThe first question is whether or not you want to hear your PC when watching TV. How tolerable would you be of it? If you don’t want to hear it, then I would recommend building a server and using small HTPCs or extenders at the TV. While you certainly could build a quiet HTPC with lots of storage and still be quiet, it will take a decent amount of planning, effort, and money. (Not that a server is going to wind up saving you money, mind you.) Also, you stated that the Xbox would be an extender. If memory serves, they’re quite loud, aren’t they?
It sounds like you’ve settled on Media Center already. Have you explored any other options?
P.S. On a personal note, thank you for your service to your country.
skirge01ModeratorI don’t think it’s related to the Epsilon info issue. That was one company with all the customer information for tons of people. No reason one of their customer’s sites should go dark as a result. Although, it could still be an unrelated security issue.
skirge01ModeratorThat light pen was one thing I never got to use. I saw it on the Apple (remember LOGO?), but never used it. Then, I got into programming and gaming on the C64 and that took up most of my childhood. Good times!
Anyone remember playing the original Castle Wolfenstein and it’s absolutely ridiculous control scheme? A two-handed joystick, plus the top left key on the keyboard to shoot. WTF?!?!

It turns out Patriot was a shill business for Al Qaida operatives, sorry.

LMFAO! Nice!
skirge01ModeratorMy wife keeps trying to get me to clean out the bottom of one of our closets, which has all my old Commodore hardware and software. So far, I’ve kept her at bay. 😉
As interesting as this product is, I don’t think I could bring myself to buy one. The cost is somewhat high and the usefulness is questionable. The only place I see this being used is in the TV room, but why would I want an entire computer on my lap, instead of a wireless keyboard. Also, I’d need to hook up the computer via cable to the TV.
I guess I’m just not the target market. I’ll continue using my emulators on the HTPC instead.
