Hey thanks again for all the comments, I believe I have solved the problems. it was a combination bad intel graphics driver ( intel’s fault) and some faulty memory. Some cannibalized memory and a graphics card seem to have soled the problem.
Pretty disappointed that intel would release the integrated gpu knowing it can’t support hdmi on x64, kinda defeats the purpose of a media chipset
TaylordownSo after doing some digging in the Intel forums it seems that this problem is rampant with people using the H67 chipset’s integrated GPU. Intel is trying to come up with a driver that works but seems to have yet to be able to. Looks like i might bite the bullet and buy a graphics card for a computer designed not to need one. So word to the wise for anyone thinking about the H67, not ready for use without a graphics card apparently.
Thanks agian for the help, definetly learned alot. Ill let you all know if a graphics card solves the problem.
TaylordownI really appreciate all the coments. Just dug out my multimeter and checked the connecteions, they were all right in line with the specs. I kind of doubt its a bad cpu as it only seems to fail when im doing something with a higher load on the gpu (usually). I just switched channels for the memory too, hoping that will make a difference. As far as the GPU overheating, i have 2x 120mm and 2x, 80mm fans so i really cant see that being a problem since the h67 chipset was built to be run without a cooler. anyone got any other ideas??
By the way, just got the logitech dinovio mini. awesome…
TaylordownSo I reset everything back to factory defaults and ran the full memory diagnostic, coming up clean. Let the computer run with no open programs and was fine for about 24 hrs then I restarted it and opened a webpage, and bam, bsod. I got several of them during the reinstall, all of them for different random reasons. Is there a way to test the psu without replacing it?
Taylordownwell as far as i can see i have tried everything. removed all devices, flashed bios, ensured all drivers were up to date, etc. Ran the memory check, passed the standard test. It seems the problem now is with the intel hd graphics, i cannot connect an hdmi cable without it crashing, naming one of the graphics drivers as the cause. This is concerning considering i JUST updated that driver, also tried rolling back the driver as it was working previously. I am currently securely erasing the boot drive and doing a clean install of win7 hoping that there were some bugs left over when i reinstalled windows without wiping the drive first. I am on the verge of taking this to a professional because im about at my limit.
I have a rosewill 650w (80+) power supply, if that may be the cause. Thanks for the help by the way

Do you want HD Audio (DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD, multi-channel LPCM) soundtracks found on Blu-ray to be played back on an Xbox 360?
In and ideal world I would, but the Xbox would be the extender to a livingroom tv and not the hometheater with the 5.1, so not a necessitty.
Is the i5-2500k overkill for this build if the most taxing thing would be scanning for commercials? Or will an i3 suffice?

Have you considered spoiling yourself with an SSD for your OS drive?
After going over the numbers again, i did decide to go with a 90Gig SSD for the OS and other programs and a 2Tb (6Gb/s) for the tv recording. the other drives will be 1 Tb as well. Good call.
what do you mean there isnt any HD Audio support when using an xbox as an extender?
TaylordownI figure why not? The pricepoint is cheap and the case has the space, since its going into a closet might as well fill it up. I was planning on using the two 6Gb/s drives for the OS and programs and one for TV Commercial skipping then stripping the other 6 for raw storage. I have a large collection of media I want to consolodate. Im really not too worried about data redundancy (RAID) or should I be? Am I missing anything else that I would need?
Or are you saying just get a fewer number of higher capacity disks?
Also, do the new slim xbox’s support BD playback?
TaylordownHey guys, I figure at this point im at the limit of my planning and need to start making some moves. So heres my list, please let me know what you think.
Mobo: Gigabyte H67
CPU: Intel i5-2500k (sandybridge)
Memory: GSkill Ripjaws 16 GB (4x4Gb)
HDD: 2x Seagate barracuda 500gb SATA (6gb/s)
6x Hitachi 500 gb drives (3bg/s)
PCI: Syba controller 4x SATA II (3Gb/s)
Tuner: Ceton InfiniTV 4 (once amazon restocks)
Optical: Samsung BD drive
Chasis: Rosewill RV-4000 Rackmount (4U) w/ 8x 3.5″ int bays, 3x 5.5″ ext bays
I figure that should give me plenty of space to work with and be easy to upgrade since there will still be plenty of expansion slots. In any event Please let me know what you guys think, I havent put together a computer in about 10 years so i could definetly use some advice.
Taylordownmy plan is to have all the AV components in a rack system in a closet with a projector for the display so there will be little up front besides the screen and speakers. so noise isnt a main concern. The reason for the HTPC and server is for tv recording via a ceton tuner and commercial skipping (more cpu power in the htpc, hdmi 1.4 output with the new DH67 motherboard and sandybridge cpu, etc.) on the HTPC, or can I just incorporate those features into the server build?
The plan for the HTPC was the fixed DH67 MB with a SB i5-2500K and SSD for commercial skipping then move all the finished files to the server along with all my other recorded music, dvds, and Blu-Rays.
And yes I have pretty much decided to stick with Media Center and MyMovies, pretty good usability and GUI as far as im concened.
