I just bought a “Hannspree 42” 1080P/120 HZ LCD for my office at work from Walmart (online only) $419, free in store shipping. It’s a great monitor, so nice I got a couple more for some engineers that work with me.

        Thanks for replying

I’ve tried to move the tiles .. never no bueno … I’ll try Valve! Had it but was waiting for some more of the toys, so never “checked it out” fully.

I do all discs thru my movies so I’d prefer it went to the movie. I’ve watched a br from the tray maybe twice

I can… I had all my drives on the HTPC, but 14 really slows down the startup. I really like just dropping a disc in a tray , no other intervention and wallla.. it’s done.

For the audio, I access about a 50% thru MC, so I would prefer no screen changes etc. I have the harmony setup to change the mode with an activity for my music and streaming radio paradise, but I wish I could just navagate to the tile and have it be done.

Remember I’m talkin Nirvana here not reality… just hopin’       🙂

Has someone figured out the Drive Bender or Drive Pooler betas yet?

I just want a drive pool for my blurays! I moved on from WHS1 a while back.

Right now re-installing 2011 WHS, just to be clean. All else works great, just need a pool for Blurays and MyMovies WHS 2011!

I can use dup and whs backup for all else, only need bout 1TB, and dont do redundency for blurays, DVDs or Recorded TV

great post jeff, you’ve got quite an impressive setup there…you must’ve known i was going to ask the following question: Pictures???? 🙂

Pictures, that could be um…bare-assing …… finishing the rack enclosure and cable management ….. and patching holes painting, new furniture and fixtures, mounting the 9 in 9.2 speakers in the media room are some of the “other projects” I need to get to!

Picures soon… well depends on what you consider soon!

Ok, that aside, i have a question–why do you have two servers? Especially given the impressive size of one of them. Are you using WHS for the backup abilities? If speed is your biggest concern and you have a huge size, there are probably better solutions (like UNRAID, or FreeNAS)

I started with the WHS for MyMovies Server, Recorded TV Automated Storage, Squeezebox Server. Really like the no nonsense easy setup pc backup, folder duplication for photos, music, data, and docs. (No duplication for Movies, would rerip if needed)… and maybe soon internet offsite access to the server. Full server failure, pull disk and copy. But had bad rips and bluray stuttering, (was probably the AF drives, or non intel NIC or throttling but thats fixed now). So built W7 server, waiting for Vail. Now Vail and MyMovies server are up in the air, so waiting. Not sure if Im up to learning a new OS right now for UnRaid, FlexRaid or FreeNAS. How tough? (Never used anything but Windows)

The 2 servers is just where I’ve sortof uneded up at this point. But I’m still on the journey .. end not in sight………….

For RecordedTV storage, that’s where the WHS is actually convenient, in that part of the updates are that it can transfer your recordings over to your WHS and then all your systems can see it.

Since I don’t have to worry about space, size or heat with my HTPC case, I’m thinking of adding the 2nd 2tb EURS drive to the HTPC (for a total of 5.5 TB recorded TV storage (that should handle it!), moving to Recorded TV Movies and 2nd Recorded TV drive with batch files. All the R-TV local should make commercial processing easier and faster. (I would think) As opposed to the WHS Recorded TV option.

So my needs for the WHS are dindling, if I’m thinking all of this out correctly. I’m not new, but I’m not that bright about these things. But I still like the pc backup and duplication/failure copying options.

My mind keeps going back to 1 HTPC feeding 3 TVs with the extender for 98% of the viewing, why wouldn’t I just attach the movie drives and MyMovies server to the main HTPC, but I never see a lot of nodding heads on the forums when I bring this up!

I think that’s why the long post and the questions, I’m looking for one of you guys to push me and knock me off occam’s razor. But I’d need that burden of proof  🙂

The principle is often incorrectly summarized as “the simplest explanation is more likely the correct one”. This summary is misleading, however, since the principle is actually focused on shifting the burden of proof in discussions.

            Thanks

Well for the few days I had it setup and running, besides the BSsOD….. Yes crazy fast!

I’m using it for a HTPC only, but for all the menus/thumbnails/etc, everything was running smooth and fast … everything “POPS”……

Can’t wait to get the replacement parts back! Hope Newegg doesn’t take too long! (never RMA’d anything before, have always been able to work things out, but didn’t want to take a chance with this MB & CPU and be “pissed” in a month!).

in reply to: Well, pulled the 650 and #3029
              wordgasm

Well, pulled the 650 and internal CIR receiver, ran for about 12 hrs, BSOD, then re-installed CIR, BSOD in 20 minutes, pulled CIR, BSOD overnight.

Looked up error on net. “Clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor with in the allocated time interval”

Everyone has tried everything, lots of voltage adjustment band-aids, years of threads with multi-cores. But the commom thought thru-out, if any one thought. CPU or motherboard or both. But all said random. Sometimes ran for days, sometimes BSOD every 10 minutes

For $500 of CPU and mb, I RMA’d. Parts winging their way back to CA and Newegg today. Hoping better luck next time.

I had already started setting my “old” core i5-650 back up in another case, so at least I have TV & Media Center for the next week and a half!

I’d be curious to know if any one else has this error with their Sandy Bridge.

                Thanks for the assist.

                Jeff

Well that’s why I posted here, waiting for you to show up! I would have never thought of the 650 card.

Many thanks as always! Next blue screen I’ll pull it and give it a go!

I’ll have to take a look at the network settings, but I didn’t change anything.

It did it on my initial install too (and couldn’t fix), that’s why I did the reinstall that wouldnt load graphic drivers.
if you copy a Blu-ray from your server to the actual client system, does it all play OK? reason for asking, is if the answer is 100% yes, then that helps you isolate what could be going on
Yeah, that’s what I meant.  I was thinking along the lines of typical debugging where one isolates the issue and works from there.  Then I went off on the video card tangent because I had an issue with a video card that should’ve been more than powerful enough but had occasional stuttering and an upgrade fixed it.

Today with throttling off on W7Server and HTPC, so far looks promising. We will see over the next few days.

I’ll give that a go. Reason I haven’t before, is sometimes the Blurays play fine. Other times, no… So I have been concentrating on the connection

                    Thanks

So I assume the BR is stored on the W7 Movie Server and you’re trying to watch them on the HTPC.  Do the videos have the same issue if watched dirrectly on the HTPC?  My back of the head thought is a stand alone video card to offload everything.  I’m not familiar with the ‘intel D57DD’ (google didn’t return anything on it), so I just wonder if it might be the bottleneck.
Yep, Movies on W7 Server, watch on HTPC. sorry “H57DD intel board”. I know the i5-650 will handle the video so it’s has to be something else.

Testing this morning since changing throttling on W7 Server, and so far looks promising. Will have to see how it goes the next few days.

                      Thanks

When I was looking the cheapest slim-line BD drive I could find was ~$200 (even now the cheapest/only one on Newegg is $153).

Get a cheap USB $100 external Bluray and $7 sata adaptor and just take off the case. Did it for my WHS over a year ago and working great
