would this be a good motherboard to pair with one of those CPUs?
ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
xjboonieso what would be a good ATX motherboard to go with the 635/640?
I’m very interested in this and it my cause me to get an iPad (have an iPhone now) as we only have one tv in the house. But as I’m going to rebuild my HTPC for win7/sage7, and am concerned about this taxing the processor, here’s my question: would I be better off with one of the AMD low watt quad-core or an Intel i3 or i5 dual core?

I’ve gotten by for five years on the IRTrans module that is in my origen X11 case. Sometimes I wish I had a USB-Uirt, but I’ve never really needed it either. But I also currently have an issue where my coffee table is in the line of site for my remote-HTPC which is annoying, so I wouldn’t mind having a tape-job ir receiver right now.

I have the X11 with VFD and IR – how did you get the IR to work? what software are you using? and do you use it with Media Center or SageTV?

Yep, I ordered with Cannon – it’s still pending, but cards are being delivered, so I’m hoping by thanksgiving. I need to replace my motherboard to free up a PCIe slot, which is forcing me to get a new cpu too… and upgrade to win7. Not really looking forward to that, as the box is pretty stable, but it’s the only xp box left in the house (besides the net book), but after 4+ years of tweaking, I’m sure there is stuff on there that is just wasting resources. Right now I’m leaning towards a i5 processor and getting an SSD for the OS so I can use the other HDD spot for more storage… (case limits room)
There is a post tracking orders on the green button

Right now it looks like people who ordered early June are getting them, and I ordered at the end of August, and based on the chart – there are about 700 order numbers before me. I don’t know if those are all CannonPC orders, or just the cable card orders. It’s an informal tracking based on what people submit on the forum, no numbers supplied by CannonPC or Centon.

I forgot to add that when using a Core i5, plan on getting a 3rd party heatsinkfan. The Core i3 comes with a very quiet fan but the stock fan on the Core i5 is too loud for most HTPC duties.
[/quote]Do you have a recommendation for a heatsinkfan? My case is full height.
Thanks!

If I wanted a new motheboard that has more PCIe slots, can I use my AMD A64 x2 4850e AM2 CPU in a newer AM3 motherboard?
