News - HDHomeRun DVR now supports protected (DRM) channels on XBox One and some Windows 10 machines

SilconDust promised it, and it's certainly taken longer than expected, but if you've been waiting for protected CableCARD content support from the HDHomeRun DVR you can finally dive in. If you have an XBox One, or are one of the lucky Windows 10 users where it works.

Details are a bit light on what separates the have/have nots on W10, but if you are one of the unlucky - you will need to get back into wait mode.

News - SiliconDust HDHomeRun LiveTV Now Supported in Kodi (XBMC)

This is some great news for anyone that's ever tried using the HDHomeRun within XBMC (now called Kodi), as there's now an add-on which adds some slick support for your network based tuners. Still no recording functionality for now, but at least it's a step in the right direction. And just in time for the Tourney!

No longer will you be required to muck around with XMLTV files or playlists in order to get your HDHomeRun running.

The best feature is the lack of configuration required. As long as you have a functioning HDHomeRun setup, just download the app inside the repo and run it. You will be presented with a beautiful channel listing and associated guide data.

News - SiliconDust @ CES 2015

SiliconDust didn’t have any new products to show in their suite this year, but we did get a chance to look at the new packaging which is important as they make a bigger push into retail, especially in Europe. We did get a chance to discuss some of the products that should have launched, but unfortunately were delayed due to merger/acquisitions in the silicon industry (e.g. Freescale bought one of their suppliers). Fortunately this only translated into delays, both the six tuner CableCARD and the dual DVB-T2 are still on the road map – with the later expected to ship very soon (Huzzah!). SiliconDust also has an eight DVB-S tuner in the works, which will be a global device with hundreds of channels available from around the world.

News - SiliconDust @ CES 2013

SiliconDust at CES

Before CES SiliconDust teased us with a press release about DLNA + DCTP-IP enabling the HDHomeRun PRIME to expose live digital cable streams to devices without the hassle of implementing DRI. I got a chance to stop by, see the upcoming HDHomeRun products, get a demo of what will be delivered initially and talk about where Project Connect is headed long term. Some photos and a breakdown are on the next page.

News - SiliconDust Announces Project:Connect Beta Starts Jan 17th

Some of the more exciting news to myself and other fellow HDHomeRun users they announced that Project:Connect will begin next week with software download on their website for new and existing hardware users of HDHomeRun Prime HDHR3-CC that will enable DLNA and DTCP-IP support. After the download users can browse the channel list and play live TV on any MPEG2-capable Digital Media Player (DMP) and Digital Media Renderer (DMR) devices. The PlayStation 3 will support DTCP-IP and will be able to play protected channels.

Andrew and Mike will be sending over some pictures later this week of this in action.

News - Silicondust Certifies HDHomeRun as DLNA LiveTV Digital Media Server (DMS)

HDHR PRIMEBeing able to access TV content from a Silicondust HDHomeRun (HDHR) tuner over the network in a variety of applications and devices isn't a new feature, but the list will grow in a really slick way when the firmware enabling DLNA access to HDHR TV streams drops. With the PRIME model providing support for the connected media scheme your full cable lineup will be available from the Digital Cable Tuner, albeit DTCP-IP is required for Copy-Once content. Unfortunately, MPEG-2 support is required so this leaves most tablets and phones out of the party but it should be easier to build a DVR on the platform than using the current DRI method.

Interestingly the full PR (click through) indicates that this is part of a larger effort by Silicondust to provide Live TV around the house as part of "Project:Connect". More details are promised at CES; we will be making sure to stop by their booth to check it out and hopefully suss out what the long term goal is.

News - Elgato App Debuts; Allows iPad 2 to Watch, Pause and Record Cable TV Directly From SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME CableCARD Tuner

Have you been dreaming of watching, recording and pausing Cable TV on your iPad 2? An interesting app from Elgato called the HDHomeRun PRIME App now provides that functionality. It's currently available in the App Store for $17.99.

You will need to get your hands on an HDHomeRun PRIME, of course. Only "Copy Freely" content will work so that's something you'll definitely want to confirm with your cable operator or verify your Windows Media Center recordings are not copy protected before laying down the cash.

In addition to watching, viewing and recording directly to the iPad 2, recordings can be moved to your PC or Mac. We have learned from SiliconDust that background recording and audio is supported as well. Press release after the break.

News - SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME General Availability Begins Labor Day Weekend

It appears SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME production is now in full swing with the announcement that general availability of the 3-tuner model (3CC) will begin Labor Day weekend at select online resellers and retail stores in addition to www.HDHomeRun.com. If you're looking to get your hands on the 6-tuner version (6CC), general availability will begin before Labor Day weekend. Fulfillment of all pre-orders will be performed before general availability of the products. It's probably safe to assume that Amazon will be one of those online resellers, but it will be interesting to see if the aggressive pricing that was posted near the end of June will still be in effect.
