Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player – Product Preview
The Sony BDP-S1 has your usual array of option you would expect from a next generation DVD player. Options like 1080p over HDMI, support for the new HD audio CODECS, and the ability to upconvert SD DVDs are all present and accounted for. With a MRSP of $999, it is very very very surprising to see the BDP-S1 not have support to play ANY audio formats (CD, SACD or DVD). Youch.
From the article:
The Sony BDP-S1 does incorporate the three new digital audio formats; Dolby
Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD, which can greatly expand the audio
performance of the home theater experience, along with the improved Blu-ray
video experience.
<P>However, despite the benefits of Blu-ray and the video capabilities of the
Sony BDP-S1, the decision as to whether to jump in now or wait and see what
happens as the Blu-ray/HD-DVD war plays itself out, presents a real challenge to
the average consumer, especially with the first crop of Blu-ray players selling
for $999 or more ($999 in the case of the Sony BDP-S1).
