Hitachi Introduces the World’s First 50-Inch 1080 HDTV Flat Panel for Under $2500
This is the type of news that make a lot of people giddy with delite. Hitachi is set to release a 50" 1080 plasma for under $2500. What you say? Is this 1080p or what? It is actually part of the new "marketing" standard/resolution that TV makers are using to fool consumers. The native resolution of the display is actually 1280X1080. Just what we all needed, something else to confuse consumers. With any luck, we will see some reviews of the new 1080 HDTVs pretty soon and see how they stack up.
Nothing too notable in the feature set. You can expect the new models to sport a SD card slot, swivel stand, anti-reflective glass, and a host of other features noted in the article.

Hitachi's new HD1080 50-inch HDTV (model P50H401) incorporates breakthrough technology that is the result of extensive research and development and more than 1,300 patents for flat panel technologies. 2007 will mark Hitachi's 51st year of television production. By engineering a new method of energizing pixels on a panel, Hitachi has improved picture quality by increasing the resolution to match the dominant 1080 HDTV broadcast format in the vertical domain. The new TV will feature a total of 1.3 million pixels utilizing a 1280×1080 pixel array.
