Ellen Gray | Confessions of a technoholic
Since I started packing a month ago for my eventual move, I have had to live without many of luxuries my HTPC afforded me. No more DVR, no more ROM game loving on my big screen, no more weather, and of course I really don't get to use Vista's Fox Sports plugin to its full potential. After reading this article, it reminds me how comfortable I got using a HTPC for day to day activities.
My confessions aside, Ellen Gray is learning the addiction we have all got bitten by. Its not damaging to your liver but technoholicism can hurt the WAF.
From the article:
That changed in December, when I was looking for someone else's Christmas present and noticed the prices had dropped sharply on the Slingbox. This surprisingly simple device allows users to access their TV or DVR – and in some cases, other devices, like camcorders – from anywhere they have a broadband Internet connection.
Last month, I spent two weeks on the West Coast for work, and for the first time since I've been doing this job, I was able to immerse myself in the TV business without completely losing track of what was on TV.
Even if that sometimes meant watching 'American Idol' auditions at 7:30 a.m.
Now that I'm home, the Slingbox continues to ingratiate itself: I've dragged the laptop into the bathroom and seen episodes of HBO's 'Rome' while soaking, watched stuff I'd recorded at home from my office PC (you might not want to try this at work, kids) and hooked up the laptop to the high-def TV to access the DVR on another floor
