Sony to Debut FED In 2009, Insists on Confusing Consumers With Yet Another Display Technology

Do we really need another display technology? Sony seems to think so and is preparing FED (Field Emission Display) for debut in 2009. FED uses carbon nanotubes to emit the electrons needed to excite the phospor to create the image. As the article mentions there is no word on price yet, but it will be cheaper than LCDs to manufacture due to less parts.

In a way, FED it's like coming full circle to Sony's good old Trinitron, but with less power consumption, and in a super-thin frame. There's also a very wide angle of vision and a total lack of death pixels (apparently, even if 20% of the emitters fail, you won't see any dead pixels).
