DirectTV Tuner Coming Soon

With the recent announcement of Hauppauge’s HD-PVR delayed I was beginning to think 2008 would be another year of false promises and delayed products :(. We HTPC enthusiasts take it in the chin alot for the luxury of having an overpriced DVD player.

The good news is that the company in charge of developing the tuners for DirectTV has contacted me to let me know about their release schedule. Remember, DirecTV has outsourced this effort similar to ATI’s partnership with Dell and other OEM efforts. They expect to be releasing the first tuners at the same time Microsoft releases the first public beta of VMC "Fiji". Look for the products available at major etailers mid-next week.

What I can tell you is that there is no special OEM arrangement required and you should be able to pick one up for $150.
