NVIDIA Ion – Intel Atom Done Right?
I would still love to get my hands on one of these Nvidia ION platforms. Here’s another article that covers the reference platform. They run some benchmarks on it, play some games, then run some video clips, followed up with some power measurements. All in all, not a bad review.
I downloaded and ran the 1080P trailer for the movie The Dark Knight
and found the Ion platform had no problems playing this clip and it was
smooth as a babies butt. Notice that Hardware Acceleration was enabled
and that the CPU utilization was between 12-15%.Playing the same clip I disabled the Hardware Acceleration in PowerDVD
and the CPU utilization went up to 96-100%, which caused the video
playback to not be perfect.
