Not everyone will have space for a full size rack though…not to mention the noise this thing must generate. But it is a beast! Media Smart Server Cavediver has this beast up and running, currently in a testing mode to make sure all the hardware is functioning correctly. So far he says the performance has been great, allowing him to simultaneously copy files to the server and stream high definition .m2ts files, something that he was unable to accomplish with the lower-horsepower MediaSmart Server. He indicates that the temperatures have also been very good, though he is building a custom fan board to support larger, quieter fans. We’re also anxious to see power consumption readings from the Kill-A-Watt once he’s farther along with the build process and has a large number of drives installed.
