I for one is one of those guy that bring out the DVE Bluray & a SPL meter, re-calibrate the video & audio in my house every couple months! :p in fact, I just re-calibrate both the HT & the living room last weekend!
We hear and see logarithmically. If I make a black blacker, you see it
immediately. That’s been the advance in all of our televisions for the
past six years. When I take a backlight control on an LCD down, I make
it more efficient, but really I’m just trying to make the blacks
blacker so the picture looks brighter. Your eye doesn’t see the loss of
light, but it sees the pop of blacks.
