The Media Center Show #245 – Networked Tuners

This week Garry Whittiker and Jason Coombes join me to discuss networked tuners using DVBLink, Jason has all his tuners pooled in a Windows Home Server and then is using DVBLink to distribute the tuners around the network. Its an interesting solution and takes us closer to having a centralised TV tuner system. Jason is also streaming TV via DLNA to devices like PS3 and over the internet.

Seen in HD 23 – Walmart+Vudu, Tivo-SDV, Harry Potter HBP review

Some fairly big news this week, as word broke shortly before recording the show that Walmart had bought online movie service Vudu in what’s being reported as a $100 million deal. This could either be a good thing for Vudu, giving the young company more capital behind it to expand and give Netflix a run for its money, or it could go the way of the Walmart MP3 store and leave thousands of customers out in the cold in the future.

Other industry shakeups include the Redbox & Warner deal, Sezmi’s retail launch and possible release dates for Avatar on Blu-ray disc.
