MyMovies 4.0 To Support TV Series
This is the beauty of smaller developers versus big corporations, when people are begging for a feature, they can actually implement it! In this case, one of the most popular movie management plugins for Windows 7 Media Center, MyMovies, is teasing about their next release including the oft-requested TV episode support! If you’re interested in being part of the private test pool, you will need to have at least 2500 points.
The new version including TV Series functionality is aimed to be made available as “My Movies 4” in a 4.00 Pre Release 1 on Tuesday March 1’st.

Shoot that would be another 50 bucks. Looks like I’ll be waiting. This has been one of the most frequent asked request in the MyMovies forum since it first came out. I don’t see a post regarding what we need to do on our end if anything to get it to work.
Do any of the other Media library products support TV series?
Just to be clear this isn’t
Just to be clear this isn’t support for recorded .wtv files. This is support for DVD/Blu Ray TV series.

I’m confused, how does the current version not support TV series’?
I have my wife’s Friends and Dawson’s Creek, as well as my Band of Brothers, Firefly, and Transformers disks all on the server and managed through My Movies 3. Works great.

you have each disk in there, but the titles, which episodes are on each disc, ect.. aren’t managed with proper meta data.

I imagine you had to do some manual work in the collection management tool also.
I have all the friends discs in my library like this DVDFriendsSeason1Disc1video_TS
And when collection management added these dvds via the monitoring service I got an individual cover for each DVD or no cover at all and an image that pointed to disc 4 with no info.
It might depend on you put your library together and me not doing it the right way. I typically put the disc in my gaming rig and put the files on WHS and let the MM addin add the file from there.
Essentially, yes, I have a
Essentially, yes, I have a folder for each season with four folders inside with a disk image of the four disks per season. It was kind of a PITA to set up with a 40-DVD box set, but not too bad.

I think it is needed to clear up some confusions here.
The upcoming support for TV series is initially TV series stored as seperate files on harddrives or network storage.
It is similar to what you know from products such to XBMC.
The functionality will allow you to view media as movies, tv series or media which means both in the same section.
Disc titles such as DVD and Blu-ray containing tv series will initially be displayed the same way they are today, however TV series discs will be featured in the “TV series” section as well as the media section, but not in the movies section given that they are correctly marked in the Collection Management program.
It is planned that DVD and Blu-ray’s containing TV series will be given episode-specific meta-data such as TV serie file storage in a later update, but it will not have this in the initial 4.00 release.
It is correct that you today can add and organize tv series in My Movies by combining series/box sets with multiple discs, but it does not give you a full tv serie structure and meta-data for both the tv show and episodes, and it is also a manual task, where both import functionality and monitoring functionality will now be able to import tv serie structures into the program.
When you say TV series
When you say TV series section are you saying that on the MyMovies, now Movies bar in the WMC interface there will be an icon for TV series. I like that idea.
If I had P90X ripped to my server could I put that in the TV series collection and then when I clik on the P90 collection would it break out each disc by the title. e.g. abs, legs, plyometric…
There will actually by
There will actually by default be two strips, one named “Movies” and another named “TV Series”.
It by default contains the two seperate entries.
You can in configuration change it to only have one strip, and then still have either seperate entries, in which case you need to remove one of the other entry items, or you can choose to have the general “media” entry that contains content for both types.
It would be nice if it could
It would be nice if it could reside next to recorded TV, replace recorded TV or reside on the menu in recorded TV where it shows sort by date, sort by title. If there was a TV Series optionshortcut there, that could take you to all the TV series functions that you are building that would be cool. Or maybe there is a tool for tinkering with the xmls or whatever the WMC menu used that we could do these things on our own.
