SiliconDust PRIME in testing, Working on Production

Just saw the following update from SiliconDust on Facebook, some great news! Hopefully this means we’ll see the PRIME sooner than later! Interpret at your own risk.

HDHomeRun PRIME update: currently undergoing certification testing at CableLabs. The pilot production build is complete, and we’re working with our production facility on the main release production build.

    from Nov 25th 2010:

“We are at CableLabs® for the final review, with release to production in 2 weeks. Pre-order and release dates will be announced shortly following release to production.”

I appreciate the update from SD, but wake me when there’s something new to report.

  • It was supposed to be ready

It was supposed to be ready for the 2010 holliday season.  All the delays are what made me get the Ceton.  Maybe, in the future, if I need something for the game room.

  • I wonder if Hauppauge is on

I wonder if Hauppauge is on the same schedule then (they will share a single firmware).

I think Hauppauge’s two-tuner USB CableCARD device in the mid-$100 price range will attract more attention for those that were hestitant to spend $400 on the InfiniTV.

  • 2-tuner would be perfect for

2-tuner would be perfect for me, there are only two of us in my household.

    • I only have a 2-person

I only have a 2-person household as well, but there are definitely times when we have all four InfiniTV tuners working. My usage pales in comparison to Mikinho though. I think he had 58 recordings in 4 or 5 days on the Hauppauge Colossus tuner alone! Surprised

  • I am looking forward to

I am looking forward to this…I have a HDHomerun right now and it is my main tuner. I am waiting for this to upgrade my cable service to full HD.

Lets get it out SiliconDust……I am glad they are testing it and hopefully making it almost flawless.

  • I’m in a two person household

I’m in a two person household as well, and I think the Prime’s 3 tuners are plenty. Even the 2 tuner Hauppague might be enough if I keep one of my current OTA tuners as well. The Ceton’s price was just too prohibitive for me, and 4 tuners were just overkill. I’m excited that hopefully this time the news actually means we’ll see the product soon.

If “soon” is within the next month or two I’d be even more happy as I’m building a new system. Waiting for more sandy bridge mobos to be available again, so no rush right this second.

  • I’ve been waiting patiently

I’ve been waiting patiently for this, but Comcast is going away from their analog soon, so I really need SD to hurry up 😉  As Jennyfur mentioned, the Ceton price was just too much to swallow for me.  Plus, I really need a network model so I can finalize my virtualization of my SageTV backend Cool  With Comcast in my area I should be good as far as broadcast flags and such for now.  Not that they can’t change it down the road of course.

    • The Ceton InfiniTV is also a

The Ceton InfiniTV is also a network tuner. When installed, the InfiniTV is a network device under Windows and can easily be bridged through a NIC so it can be accessible from your network.

True, but it needs a system to put it in 🙂  Right now I’m moving everything to a single VMWare box with my current WHS box being the last migration.  I don’t need a desktop anymore (no gaming) since I have a laptop.  I will eventually create a second VMWare box for HA/DRS testing and I don’t want my recordings relying on one box being up all the time….

    • So, Comcast hasn’t been

So, Comcast hasn’t been setting the copy once flags on their channels?  I’ve been wondering this myself, as I am having all sorts of problems with my HD-PVRs and would welcome a change to cablecard.

      • In most markets Comcast only

In most markets Comcast only sets Copy-Once flags for premium channels.  Every once in a while you’ll see a Copy-Once flag on a local channel show that was inadvertantly set but it is rare.

        • Premium are HBO, showtime,

Premium are HBO, showtime, etc.  Not History and Discovery right?

          • Correct.

            Correct.

          • Right.  At least for me.

Right.  At least for me.  Though I’ve seen some unexpected channels marked as copy once (the tennis channel is worried about piracy, really?)
