NikKTech Reviews Noctua NH-L9x65 Low-Profile CPU Cooler

Oct 30 2015

I'm a big fan of Noctua coolers, but they are a bit pricey compared to competing solutions so it's important to do your research and make sure that the HSF you select is providing good value for money.

Most people we know may be serious gamers, overclockers, enthusiasts and professionals who are pretty much always after high-performance when it comes to their PCs but there are also quite a few who are just looking to build a cost-effective system which they can use as an HTPC or just for basic functions like downloading, web surfing and casual gaming. With that into account PC case manufacturers have focused a lot lately in the design and manufacture of small m-ITX and m-ATX PC cases (even 3 liter ones) which as expected really are nowhere near as spacious as regular ATX compatible models and thus require to be fitted with low-profile hardware components. Noctua is one of the very few manufacturers to have released a good number of m-ITX and m-ATX compatible CPU coolers recently and today with us we have their latest NH-L9x65 model which is based on their award winning NH-L9.

Noctua coolers may be pricey, but they're the last CPU cooler you'll ever need to buy.  Make sure you hang onto your receipt when you purchase one because you'll be eligible for free upgrade kits to use your Noctua cooler with any new generation CPU.  All you need to do is contact Noctua and provide them with a copy of your receipt and they'll send you a kit with the necessary brackets and adapters to fit your cooler to whatever CPU socket configuration you're using.  I bought one for my HTPC years ago and so far I've upgraded it 2 or 3 times at no additional cost.  The build quality is excellent.

Thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware that they would do that.

We provide mounting upgrades for Noctua CPU coolers free of charge, so if you would like to continue using your Noctua cooler on a new socket, we will send you a new mounting kit at no additional cost. For ordering our mounting kits, a proof of purchase (photo, scan or screenshot of the invoice) of both a Noctua CPU cooler and hardware components corresponding to the specific kit are required.

The following kits are currently available:

NM-I2011 Mounting-Kit: Upgrades older Noctua CPU coolers to LGA2011.
NM-i115x Mounting-Kit: Upgrades older Noctua CPU coolers to LGA1156/1155/1150 & LGA1366.
NM-I3 Mounting-Kit: Upgrades Noctua CPU coolers to LGA1366 & LGA775.
NM-A90 Upgrade-Kit: Makes it possible to install NH-U12P SE2 and NH-U9B SE2 CPU coolers turned by 90° on AMD motherboards.

It looks like they are now requiring proof of purchase of the new motherboard along with the original CPU cooler receipt.  Just click on the link to the upgrade kit you require and it will take you to a page where you'll fill out a form and place the order.  The kits are absolutely free and should arrive within a couple of weeks after placing the order.
