Rushed firmware, after rushed firmware, after rushed firmware; all likely due to poor release management by Ubiquiti. While I applaud the desire to try rapidly fix broken things, maybe the rush to turn us all into beta testers for a Unifi Controller that even UI isn’t willing to call stable is the problem?

Has it been a week already? It would have been a long week for a lot of folks running the 1.9.0 firmware on their UDM/UDM-Pro. Personally, I’m going to wait another week because of how badly the last release went, but I’m also quite a bit more confident about the stability of this release, so maybe I’ll cut that short.

Ubiquiti has released the 1.9.x firmware for the UDM/UDM-Pro. To me, this seems a bit rushed, especially with the inclusion of the 6.1.x controller.

Only one thing in the change log, but it’s unusual for Ubiquiti to rush out firmware updates… Wait, let me say that differently, it’s unusual for them to push out firmware updates so quickly with only one change :).

Ubiquiti released UniFi Dream Machine Firmware 1.8.4 for UDM and UDM-Pro devices today. It’s mostly bug fixes, and so far has been working great for me. Unfortunately, they still seem to be leaving the UDM base behind when it comes to user experience though…

Ubiquiti has just release the 1.8.3 stable release for the UDM/UDM-Pro UniFi gateways. While this is a milestone for both, it is especially noteworthy for the UDM which has not received a stable release since early 2020. The change list is massive, so it’s probably a release you want to manage manually, with a good backup in hand.

Ubiquiti is using an antiquated version of the Suricata IDS/IPS software in their gateways, but it looks like that will be changing “soon“. At least for the UDM/UDM-Pro.
